One thing you need to keep in mind is that when you start an ironman, you CAN NOT remove your title as an ironman. This means that you won't be able to trade even if you ask or donate.
Now that we have gotten that out of the way. When you begin as an ironman you will be given a set of ironman gear which looks like this.
When starting out, this gear will help you as the armor has a nice attack bonus of +15 in each stat. Additionally, the armor will also give you +9 melee strength which is useful with the ironman sword you get given.
Furthermore, the runes you get given will also come useful as it will allow you to train your mage stat without having to worry about buying any.
Even though you are an ironman, you can still use the shops located at ::home meaning you can buy gear and runes. This will be useful for when you begin due to the fact that you will be able to buy better armor from shops such as Candi's Armory or weapons from Sandi Ewoks Weapons.
Additionally, since you are an ironman. You will have access to something called instances. Instances are located at west of home and it looks like a giant purple portal. You can't miss it. Instances allow you as an ironman to kill bosses by yourself however it will cost you money. For example, to be able to kill 10 Flame Kings you will need to pay 1,000,000,000 which is 1B. All items you get will be sent to your bank meaning you won't have to pick them up
Everyone has their own way of starting off as an ironman however I will talk about the main way that people start off, Including me. The first step is to go to ::mbox and kill the penguins.
The penguins have a 1 in 15 chance to drop a mystery box which can give you many goodies to help you on your path to become the best ironman. The most useful thing for an ironman that you can get in these mystery boxes is something called a Double XP Ring. As the name states, this ring can double the xp you get which is very useful to ironmen.
Additionally, Penguins always drop Penguin bones which are also useful to ironmen, especially if you have Double XP Ring. I suggest you pick up all of the Penguin bones you get and use them at the altar east of home. Additionally, mystery boxes can give you cash which you can use at the shops at ::home to get better gear.
I would kill the penguins until you reach 43 prayer so that you can use protect against melee. This is important as the next step in your ironman life will be to try and get a fast hitting weapon, such as a Royal Sicle. The Royal Sicle is dropped by a couple of bosses, including Torquat. Torquats are located at ::starterboss and have a chance to drop Royal Sicles and Brutal Whips. Having a Royal Sicle is important as it will allow you to tank bosses such as Dragonbone, as long as you have soul split that is.
Dragonbone Protectors can drop Dragonbone Mage gear and Dragonbone Melee gear. Dragonbone melee gear can be upgraded to become Dragonbone Melee (u) at ::upgrade however there is a chance you will lose the item when you try to upgrade it. I wouldn't attempt upgrading Dragonbone armor unless you have spare pieces.
Dragonbone ProtectorThe stats for Dragonbone melee are quite good for starters due to the fact that you get +120 in both Stab and Slash. Additionally, you get a +60 strength bonus meaning you will hit stronger with your weapon. The +30 prayer bonus will also help you since it will decrease the speed that your prayer drops.
On the other hand, the stats for Dragonbone Melee (u) are considerably better than the non upgraded version. There is a +90 increase in the Stab and Slash. Additionally, there is a +150 melee strength bonus which should help you
Now that you have both the Royal Sicle and Dragonbone Melee (u), you can do what ever you want. There are many things that you can do now such as get an upgraded Royal Sicle or even try to get a Phoenix Pet from the Phoenix boss.
That is all for this guide, it's all up to you now :)
